Time for the latest post in which we introduce you to the team behind The Europeans! Today, it’s producer @kzlvh’s turn. "Hallo, I'm Katz! I joined The Europeans four years ago as The First New Person, after sliding into the pod's DMs. I grew up with a name I couldn't pronounce, first in the English countryside, and then in Catalunya for 11 years. My family has been crossing borders for generations, and I just didn't recognise the freedom of movement that had shaped me and the people I knew in the national media. I wanted to know who else wasn't getting covered, and The Europeans felt like a professional home and surprising all at once. I used to teach biology, and loved the learning and storytelling, but I didn't like the stiffness of textbooks. Who wrote this, what were they burning to learn? That, and I wanted to be outside. I'd had this outdated vision of wading around rivers, looking at frogspawn and plants, and then talking to other biologists about what they were doing. But aha! An internship at Radiolab was my gateway, that taught me a mic lets me do just that. It's like a magic stick, to walk into someone's life, and say ‘Hey, you seem interesting - Who are you? What are you doing? What do I need to know to understand you?’"
